Summer Adventure
Outdoor
Each summer, CI students participate in an extended wilderness expedition and document it with digital photography, video and journaling. Participants journey into the wild environments of Vermont, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Colorado for 5 to 30 day hiking, camping, rock climbing, and canoeing experiences.
Throughout the program, participants are trained in leadership, teamwork and communication skills. In this new environment, the students form a peer group based on positive reinforcement, integrity, and a healthy work ethic. The summer program gives our students a sense of responsibility and empowerment.
Technology
Once back in the city, students begin a two-week intensive information technology and digital-design program hosted at the CI Tech & Trek Center in the Bronx. Classes range from computer basics to photo editing, video editing, and web design. Students strengthen their literacy skills, as well as improve public speaking and social skills. The program culminates with students launching their Web sites to share their outdoor experiences with the world.
