VOMP Vomp is a method used to discuss and solve problems within a group. It has been very effective with our group, the Outlawz. Vomp solves problems at their source and prevents others from occurring. Vomp has helped bring the group together and got rid of all separations that arose within the group. Venting- When venting each person in the dispute explains their side of the story. Venting allows the group to hear the points of views of both individuals in the dispute. Ownership- Allows person to own up to their mistakes or faults. Ownership helps the person realize that they probably did do something wrong. Moccasins- Allows person to put themselves in the other person's shoes. This helps the person to realize where the other person is coming from or why they got mad. Planning- Allows both individuals to think about what they are going to do to prevent other problems.
Example - Desean and Stevon It was during the orientation when Desean and Stevon had an argument. We were on our way home and we were about to get into the van. Stevon wanted to sit in a certain seat, but Desean also wanted to sit in that seat. They argued for a while, then a fight was about to occur. The counselors stepped in to prevent the fight and VOMP was called. They both told their side of the story, owned up to the fact that they jumped to conclusions, understood why they each got mad and planned not to speak to each other for a while to cool off. They are now very good friends. This is an example of how effective VOMP is. |
